Overview of London Remade's achievements since 2001

Reprocessing

With a Government grant provided by the London Development Agency and supported by the Mayor of London we developed four recycling eco-parks with the private sector. Total investment was over £20 million in reprocessing glass, paper, organics and construction & demolition waste. We have continued this work with reprocessors and recycling plant throughout the city, including originating the partnership which led to the building of London's first plastics recycling plant in Dagenham, east London .

Green procurement and products

We were concerned that while materials were being separated and collected for recycling, little was actually finding its way into new products. So we established the UK's first green procurement programme to help manufacturers make and market recycled products and customers to buy them. Due to huge interest from both the private and public sectors, the initiative has grown enormously and the programme now operates autonomously as The Green Procurement Code www.greenprocurementcode.co.uk

To inspire and encourage the design of products using recycled materials we invested in a new product development fund. We enabled designers to create and test their prototypes, ready to take to market.

Helping local authorities and waste companies

We helped London's 33 Boroughs and its waste companies improve the quality and quantity of materials collected for recycling. We assisted the Boroughs in designing and operating their recycling services. Now over 90% of London households either receive a recycling collection from home, or have access to nearby facilities. With the Boroughs and the GLA we designed and developed a new information source - Capital Waste Facts. For more about the waste and recycling in the capital, www.capitalwastefacts.com

LRS Consultancy

In 2006, we launched a commercial subsidiary, London Remade Solutions, to meet an expanding demand for our services. Its success led it to becoming an independent company in 2009 - LRS Consultancy - which now runs the green procurement code, capital waste facts, support for local authorities and the commercial sector.
